“With this novella, Darling and Harms present a grisly tale of voyeurism and obsession, perfect for readers of transgressive splatterpunk fiction.”
If you discovered a peephole to your erratic and elusive neighbor’s living room, would you look?
Lenora, a black trans woman, finally finds a decent apartment in L.A., and is excited to at last have a safe place to call her own and focus on making music. Then she discovers the peephole.
Lenora lives next door to Jane, a sex worker who runs the LonelyCams channel. Jane stages violent scenes in her living room, and Lenora and her bandmates soon become obsessed with watching the gruesome performances from the peephole.
They soon begin to wonder if Jane is really just putting on a show, or is this part of something even more sinister? No one in building seems to notice, or care for that matter.
Why is there a peephole in the first place?
Learning the truth plunges Lenora into a brutal world far more depraved than she could ever imagine, and she soon finds herself in a desperate struggle for survival.
Why we’re excited about this book:
Mariah Darling is a trans writer, actress, and activist. Eve Harms is the author of the Kendra Temple series and Transmuted, with short-fiction in such publications as Creepy Catalogue and Vastarien. With this novella, Darling and Harms present a grisly tale of voyeurism and obsession, perfect for readers of transgressive splatterpunk fiction.“ Laurel Hightower (Day of the Door, Below) says: “With their debut collaboration, Chasers, Eve Harms and Mariah Darling bring the reader along for a wild and deeply felt ride. An unsettling mystery peopled with characters who instantly appeal, Chasers is propulsively plotted with a jaw dropping but all too believable premise. More than simply horror or thriller, the writing is accessible and enthralling. Would love to see more from this talented duo.”
Why Mariah is excited about this book:
“Our novella Chasers is all too appropriate for 2025. I’m excited to share the icky realities of navigating through this world as a trans woman amongst men who have committed themselves to objectifying women. Chasers will be a thought provoking experience for anyone!“
Why Eve is excited about this book:
“We’re excited to contribute to the rich splatterpunk tradition with our fresh perspective. Chasers is perfect for the reader who loves queer horror with fun characters that pushes their boundaries and offers an intense emotional experience. With bigots actively attempting to erase our trans existence, this book is more vital than ever.”
Releasing from Unnerving 11 February 2025, Chasers by Mariah Darling and Eve Harms is available for pre-order now.
