This Is Horror

News Round-up Week Ending 17 January 2020

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

New anthology, Lost Voices, out now from Lulu.com

Lost Voices is a horror anthology of tales left by the wayside: stories recorded on abandoned VHS tapes, horrors found in lifeless towns, voices silenced by the encroaching darkness. Born from a conversation about screwed up stories that’d been rejected from various anthologies, magazines, and callouts for being too weird, freaky, and dark, Lost Voices dredges these lost tales from a past better forgotten. Featuring twelve dark tales by Joseph Sale, Emily Harrison, Christa Wojciechowski and Ross Jeffery, Lost Voices promises to push the boundaries of what horror can be and do. With a foreword by Steve Stred, you can pick up your copy right now, here.

New from author S. A. Hunt and Tor Books, Burn the Dark, the first volume of a new urban fantasy horror series

Burn The Dark stars Robin, a YouTube celebrity gone viral with her intensely-realistic witch hunter series. However, even her millions of followers don’t know the truth: her series isn’t fiction. Robin’s viral adventures will continue in I Come With Knives and The Hellion out later this year – so make sure to stay tuned! Best selling author Jonathan Maberry says: Burn the Dark is a brilliant debut! S. A. Hunt gets everything right about the creepier aspects of 21st century digital culture and presents a compelling and memorable female lead.” Released 14 January, you can pick up your copy right now, here.

Coming 30 January from Bryan Smith and Grindhouse Press, The Fucking Zombie Apocalypse

New from the Splatterpunk Award-winning author of Kill For Satan, comes The Fucking Zombie Apocalypse. Phil went on an epic bender last night after breaking up with Crazy Sue. And now he’s waking up with the mother of all hangovers. But that’s the good news. Crazy Sue has called and left a message. She has Phil’s hamster, George the Magnificent, and she’s threatening to squash George if Phil doesn’t come back to her. She gives him an hour to make his way back across town to her place. Still in a drunken daze, Phil bolts from his bed and heads outside, at which point he runs headfirst into yet another complication–the fucking zombie apocalypse has started. But Phil loves his rodent buddy and he means to get to Crazy Sue’s place–whatever it takes. Available 30 January, you can pre-order your copy now, here.
