This Is Horror

News Round-up Week Ending 19 August 2016

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week…

First The Dark Tower Footage To Air In October

Although filming has been completed on the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower there’s still a way to go before its release on 17 February 2017. Fortunately we’ll get the chance to see some actual footage from the film, rather than the handful of stills that have so far been released, when it’s revealed at Entertainment Weekly’s annual Popfest which takes place in Los Angeles on the 29 and 30 October.

Inside Remake To Open 2016 Sitges Festival

Miguel Angel Vivas’s remake of 2007’s Inside, which was one of the most original films of that year, not to mention one of the most brutal and harrowing, has been chosen to open the 49th Sitges Film Festival in Spain.

Differing from the original in its tone, taking a more Hitchcockian thriller approach rather the all out terror and violence of its predecessor, Inside focuses on a young, pregnant and depressed widow who is trying to rebuild her life following a car accident in which she lost her husband and most of her hearing. Living in a remote house in the suburbs and about to go into labour one Christmas night, she receives an unexpected visit from another woman with a devastating objective—to rip the child she’s carrying from inside her. However, a mother’s fury when it comes to protecting her child should never be underestimated.

The Inside remake will open Sitges on 7 October 2016

Pennywise Revealed In It Remake Image

Those of us of a certain age will remember being terrified by Tim Curry’s portrayal of Pennywise the clown in the 1990 mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal novel It. By the looks of the image released by Entertainment Weekly of Bill Skarsgard’s new iteration of Pennywise from the upcoming remake, however, we’re in for another round of nightmares when part one floats into theatres on 8 September 2017.

In the meantime feast your eyes on everybody’s least favourite clown.

The Lost Boys To Become A TV Series

The iconic 1987 film The Lost Boys is being made into a seven season series by the CW network, home of The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and iZombie. iZombie creator Rob Thomas is scripting a seven series arc, with each series chronicling a different decade beginning in San Francisco in 1967.

Thomas envisages that each season the human characters, the setting, the antagonist and the story will change, with only the vampire characters, the Lost Boys, remaining the same, in an attempt to explore what it really means to be immortal.

No news on when this will hit our screens but we’ll keep you posted.

Resident Evil 7 Releases New Trailer

Though we’ve got to wait until January 2017 to get our hands on the Resident Evil 7, a new trailer has been released that, while not giving anything away in terms of plot, is certainly atmospheric and good news for those wanting the series to return to its scary, survival horror roots.

Set in the cellars beneath a plantation house that was featured in the demo that was released at this year’s E3, the found footage trailer is shot from the point of view of a woman who is being stalked by another, sinister lantern bearing woman who was previously revealed to be called Marguerite.

Check out the trailer here, but don’t watch it alone in the dark.
