This Is Horror

News Round-up Week Ending 6 September 2019

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

New Nightscape Press charitable chapbook, Everything is Beautiful and Nothing Bad Can Ever Happen Here, coming 24 September

The latest in Nightscape Press’ range of charitable chapbooks is available for pre-order now. Written by Michael Wehunt, one of the foremost writers of weird fiction working today, Everything is Beautiful and Nothing Bad Can Ever Happen Here is limited to 250 copies. At the time of writing, only 177 copies were left in stock of the physical book. As with previous releases in the range, the chapbook is available for $30, with the eBook priced at $5. The chapbook will be fully illustrated, and one third of proceeds will go to Wehunt’s selected charity, The Southern Poverty Law Centre. You can pre-order your copy here.

Out of Water, Sarah Read’s debut collection from Trepidatio Publishing, coming 1 November

Following on from last year’s hit novel, The Bone Weaver’s Orchard, Sarah Read’s debut collection, Out of Water, is available for pre-order now, through Trepidatio publishing. Featuring an introduction by Gemma Files, Out of Water will be released on 1 November. As with all Trepidatio/Journalstone releases, customers buying a physical copy of the book online will also receive an eBook of the title immediately, so there is no need to wait to get started reading. Gwendolyn Kiste (The Rust Maidens) said of the collection: “Out of Water is a gorgeous, sinister, and incredibly lovely dive into all the darkness the horror genre has to offer.” Pre-order your copy here.

Served Cold, the new collection from Alan Baxter, coming 17 September from Grey Matter Press

Alan Baxter’s twelfth solo release, and his second short fiction collection, Served Cold, is coming 17 September from Grey Matter Press. Featuring sixteen stories, collected together for the first time, Served Cold spans the range of Baxter’s work in horror, dark fantasy and beyond. Following on from his 2016 collection Crow Shine both in spirit and in the beautifully realised cover art, fans of fast paced, brutal dark fiction will not want to miss this. John F. D. Taff (The Fearing) says: “Alan Baxter’s Served Cold is a feast for readers, who will push back from the table wanting more!” You can pre-order your copy right now, here.
