Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

Grimmfest Announce Full Line-Up

Manchester’s annual scare festival, Grimmfest, is right around the corner and the full line up for the weekend has now been announced. Running from October 6 to 9 at the Odeon Printworks, the festival will also feature a preview night on September 23, which will include a showing of Rob Zombie’s latest release, 31, along with a showing of 1977 classic, The Hills Have Eyes, as homage to the late, great Wes Craven. The main festival features the UK premieres of Corey Asraf and John Swab’s Let Me Make you a Martyr, featuring Marilyn Manson, and Goeff Rednapp’s The Unseen. Chills In The Chapel at London’s Union Chapel on October 29

London’s Union Chapel will play host to its now annual horror and music mash-up, ‘Chills in the Chapel’ on Saturday October 29. Featuring a musical performance by Fabio Frizzi, expanding his work this time to use film clips and visuals from other directors, in addition to Lucio Fulci, with whom he has a long standing collaborative relationship. The show will start at 6:45pm, with a Halloween fancy dress ball immediately after at 10:30pm. More details are available here.

Dark Fuse Magazine Announce Serial-Novel Release The Nightly Disease

Dark Fuse magazine have announced a serial-novel, The Nightly Disease, to be released piece by piece, every night at 9pm (EST) from October 1 until Halloween night. The serial, by Max Booth III (Toxicity, How to Succefully Kidnap Strangers) will only be available to premium subscribers. There will also be a very limited run of 52 hard back editions, available from the magazine in mid-October. Full details are available here.

Samhain Horror Titles to be Resurrected by Riverdale Avenue Books

After Samhain publishing’s decision to end its association with the horror genre and to focus its efforts solely on its romance titles, Riverdale Avenue Books have come to the rescue. With more than thirty years of experience within the horror genre, as a literary agent and a founding member of the Horror Writers of America group, Riverdale’s Lori Perkins has expressed her excitement at the prospect, saying “I have great admiration for Samhain’s horror line. I am hoping that with inventive marketing and traditional support, we can bring these cutting edge titles to a larger audience.” Riverdale plan to target their new horror line primarily to female horror readers of multiple generations. Highly-rated Preacher Series Comes to DVD and Blu-ray

Greeted with great acclaim for its no-punches-pulled style, gore and dialogue, Preacher finds its way to a home release on October 17, just in time for Halloween. Featuring Dominic Cooper (Agent Carter) as the preacher himself alongside Ruth Negga (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), the home release will feature a host of additional features, including a gag reel, the original pilot and a series of documentaries which should add value for fans of the series.
