Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week…
Robert Englund Wants To Return To Elm Street
With rumours of another reboot of the Nightmare on Elm Street series—which couldn’t possibly be any worse than the 2010 misfire, could it?—none other than Freddy himself has revealed that he’d very much be up for a cameo role in it.
During a Q&A at the recent Belfast Comic Con, Englund said that he’d like to “maybe play the cantankerous old professor, or the group therapy guy that doesn’t believe they’re having nightmares. I think it would be fun for the audience.”
He also revealed that the reboot may combine elements of the third and fourth films from the original franchise, but given that few details have been revealed thus far, Englund may just be dreaming.
James Franco to appear in King’s Drunken Fireworks
Hot on the heels of his starring role in the recent and decent television adaptation of Stephen King’s entertaining time travel novel 11.22.63 James Franco has signed up for another King tale, this time his darkly comic Drunken Fireworks from his last short story collection, The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.
Drunken Fireworks, set in small-town rural Maine, is the story of local good ol’ boy Alden McCausland (Franco) who strikes up a rivalry with retired mob boss Nicky Serrano when Nicky moves in across the lake from Alden and his mother. When Nicky bests Alden’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show, Alden goes to great lengths to ensure that he beats Nicky the next year in a competition known henceforth as the “Fourth of July Arms Race”.
There’s no director attached yet, but the film is being produced by Rabbit Bandini Productions and Rubicon Entertainment, with a script written by frequent Franco collaborator Matt Rager.
Kayako And Sadako Play Baseball
Yes, you read that correctly. To promote the upcoming Sadako Vs Kayako film that pits the creepy girls from The Ring and The Grudge against each other, both of these horror honeys recently appeared at a baseball game to throw the ceremonial first pitch.
In a marketing move that’s either brilliant or bonkers, Sadako somehow manages to see through her curtain of hair to throw the ball at a blood soaked Kayako who doesn’t exactly knock it out of the park but at least manages to hit it.
Just in case you think we’re dreaming this one up, the video evidence is below.
New International Ghostbusters Trailer Reveals Huge Bad Guy
Though the new international trailer for the upcoming Ghostbuster’s reboot doesn’t give much new away, it does finally offer a look at the scale of the new big bad guy Rowan.
Not to be outdone by the original’s not exactly small Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Rowan is shown crashing through buildings with his enormous foot and threatening to give the all new Ghostbuster girls a run for their money.
Ghostbusters materialises in theatres on July 15, 2016.
