Why we’re looking forward to this: Though it’s being produced by JJ Abrams (who has been involved in a couple of mildly successful projects in the last few years) and contains the word ‘Cloverfield’ in the title, we and the rest of the world are currently unsure as to whether 10 Cloverfield Lane is a sequel to the great 2008 film, set in the same universe, or just a coincidental (or very clever) piece of marketing.
That said, the trailer looks great, with the movie appearing to be a taut one location thriller starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. Evoking such similar premised films as 2011’s underrated The Divide and 2006’s superb Right At Your Door, 10 Cloverfield Lane sports the tagline ‘Monsters come in different forms’, while JJ Abrams’s comments that it is a ‘blood relative’ of Cloverfield points to it perhaps being an alternative take on the original movie. Even if it isn’t, we’re still curious to see just what this one is all about.
10 Cloverfield Lane hits cinemas on 11 March 2016.
