Why we’re looking forward to this: There’s something about black and white films that give them a disconcerting edge over their colour counterparts. Think Psycho, Pi, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night and the black and white version of Frank Darabont’s The Mist and you’ll see where we’re coming from.
The trailer for director Mickey Keating’s new feature Darling has Lauren Ashley Carter as the titular young woman who becomes the new caretaker for a house where the previous holder of that job committed suicide, which is almost always, of course, a sure sign that you should high tail it out of there pronto, but then there wouldn’t be much of a film.
The brooding camera work as Darling explores the house and discovers a locked door has the hairs on the back of our necks twitching, and the sense of dread and doom that the short trailer manages to generate has us wanting to take up residence at this creepy abode to see what happens to Darling.
A theatrical release for Darling is planned for early 2016.
