In this podcast The Outer Dark presents Quarantine Readings by Gemma Files and Alistair Rennie, plus an exclusive original dark jazz musical composition by Alistair Rennie. The interviews were recorded on Sunday June 21 and Wednesday June 24, 2020.

    Show Notes

The sixth installment of The Outer Dark Quarantine Reading series features Gemma Files (Experimental Film) and Alistair Rennie (BleakWarrior) (1:07:27) who share their experiences in Canada and Scotland respectively social distancing in a time of social unrest, writing unexpected novels in a stalled world (and also music, in Rennie’s case), and their quarantine reading recommendations. Gemma reads a complete pre-pandemic/post-pandemic tale called ‘This Is How It Goes’ (0:16:53), first published in Other Voices, Other Tombs (Cemetery Gates, 2019, eds. Brhel and Sullivan) and included in her next collection In That Endlessness, Our End, forthcoming from Grimscribe Press (0:37:57). Alistair reads ‘Inflitrator’ (1:19:52), an excerpt from his second novel in progress and shares an original dark jazz music composition called ‘In the Beginning’ (1:43:47), which he created especially for this The Outer Dark episode.

The Outer Dark Symposium on the Greater Weird is the only annual conference centered around contemporary Weird fiction. This year’s event will occur virtually on the weekend of August 14-16, 2020. Find out more at TheOuterDark.org.
