Show Notes
The Outer Dark presents Keeping It Weird, a panel from World Fantasy Con 2022 moderated by Jason A. Wyckoff and featuring David Boop, Michael Kelly (Undertow Publications), Anya Martin, Jon Padgett (Grimscribe Press), and Zin E. Rocklyn . The panelists discuss why they personally find contemporary Weird fiction exciting, why The Weird defies definition and is much more than cosmic horror, mode vs genre, and how the rise of a “community” of diverse and marginalized writers is pushing the limits of The Weird as a vital literary mode and turning its Lovecraftian legacy upside-down. More topics include the key role of independent editors and presses on seeding the The Weird Renaissance, a hunger for new suns, the panelists’ own goals with utilizing The Weird, their many author reading recommendations, and their predictions of the future of Weird fiction! This podcast’s content was recorded in New Orleans, LA, on November 5, 2022. Thank you to WFC22 Vice-Chair Ginny Smith and programming chair Pamela Oberg for permission to air the panel.
